As estações realmente chegaram a serem construídas?
For a long time dreamed up with a railroad that linked the North Shore to the rest of the country. Several of the projects, the most important being the Mogiana line between Amparo and San Sebastian, and between the Central and Suzano São Sebastião. But there was never really a railroad on the north coast of São Paulo except railways banana (these in large numbers and present throughout the coast of São Paulo).
Undoubtedly, this mysterious railroad would be the most interesting discovery and intrigrante Brazilian railway history. My question is: Are there works of art? How would the undercarriage? Is there any locomotive lost by region? The stations really got to be built? There's a lot to consider, much material being investigated.

From a partnership to research and cultural activities between Taubaté and Ubatuba, the Board of Taubaté wants to remake the history of a railroad in 1890.The collection of information about it will be the first action project developed in cooperation between municipalities. An agreement to seal the partnership will be signed in January.
The work will be conducted by the Memorial Chamber of Taubaté and reflects the historical survey of the railroad to the development of documentary film, printed material such as guide or primer, and dissemination in the digital platform."We want to bring out the connection between Taubaté and Ubatuba, which is umbilical," said Peter Rubim, a researcher at Memorial. The survey will follow the templates done this year to redeem a Gold Road between Taubaté and Paraty (RJ) - a proposal that is in the final stages of development.

Pesquisa.
Search. The railroad chosen for the new research is shrouded in doubt, controversy and ignorance. She would have been built between 1890 and 1892 in an ambitious project to connect initially cities Taubaté to Ubatuba. The goal of the work would provide a means of cheap and fast transportation for the draining of coffee production of the season.
However, there are few reports about the contract and the remains of its realization. As sources of information for work, want to use the Memorial Chamber of minutes, then press publications and documents of the period.
The search will also include collaboration Master's USP (University of São Paulo), William Carra Makowsky, who two years ago conducts research on the old railroad in the region. From documents, books, study of land and interviews with the community, Makowsky managed to reassemble the history of the railroad and identify points at which it would have passed. He believes the survey will open doors for others to be performed. "I found a railroad that many did not believe exists, there are many issues to be explored in it," he said.

Descobertas. Do total, teriam sido concretizados 89 quilômetros.
Discoveries. Among the findings, he said, are the extension of the railroad built and the location of stations. The project contemplated a connection of 170 kilometers. Of the total, 89 km have been achieved.
The trip count with three stations, neighborhoods of Registro and Boraceia and current Fazenda Fortaleza. The route chosen for the installation of rails, according Makowsky, has features that allow identification. "The excerpts do not have many curves and they can not be closed."

Banco.
Bank. The railway project had been run by an English engineer at the request of traders, farmers and entrepreneurs in the region. To make the proposal, which had 'finance' government, the group articulated the opening of a financial institution, Banco Popular Taubaté, founded in 1889.
For the execution of the work, were brought foreign workers, especially from Italy. The launch of the railroad in 1890, was held in Ubatuba with celebrations and banquets. However, in 1892, the work was halted. The reason would have been cut in public funding, caused by political disputes. Until 1917 there were attempts to resume construction, but without success.
In 1899, 'pulled' by the closure of railway construction, the People's Bank of Taubaté was settled. A historical controversy surrounding the institution and will be subject to search at the Memorial issuance of coins, which would have been spotted by researchers at the time.

Besides this, there was another railroad in North Coast, this most famous, and now justified its existence with the discovery of the railroad between Taubaté and Ubatuba. In Caraguá, there are photos and even railroad tracks located inside the former farm of the British, now belonging to the family Penido, current Fazenda Serramar. The railway, with 120 kilometers, went inside the farm and carried throughout the production of fruits, especially banana, even a small harbor, which existed in the neighborhood of Porto Novo. From there, the production was put on barges, carrying the goods to the vessels, which in turn led to the production of fruit to England. The railroad, established in the 20s, was deactivated in 1967, when a waterspout hit the city of Caraguá. There are still traces of the little railroad that existed in the British Treasury. The family maintains a Penido where photos can be seen the railroad.
About the undercarriage, the only survivors were a locomotive and a wagon Davenport, seen in the first photo of this post. The railroad was a typical "banana railroad" of the coast, but to have historical connection with the alleged railroad Taubaté-Caraguatatuba, was meter gauge (when all were in narrow gauge, 0.60 m). Connected the mooring of boats to the farm, passing the village of workers (see map below):

Special thanks to Kelso Medici, who died on the last day 26, and that even unknowingly helped in this by posting the very few to have divulged information about the railway in the Fazenda dos Ingleses.
